Children thriving…
The children at KCF are thriving in school and receiving good reports. The staff are feeling happy and rested despite some challenges.
The teachers across Uganda were on strike for several weeks due to a pay dispute with the government. Fortunately, the KCF children had access to books and coursework, as well as the library at the home (which is solar powered) so were able to continue studying and remained engaged without much disruption.
Managers visit…
There was a lot of excitement and anticipation surrounding Geoff and Rachel’s visit in September after more than 2.5 years. The children practiced their performances well before the visit… everything from dancing to singing, skits, and comedy showing their many talents.
Geoff and Rachel visited the schools…held staff meetings, evaluated budgets, reviewed the children’s report cards, met with their Council of Elders, held a special celebration, and of course, played a highly anticipated volleyball match…Geoff’s Team vs Rachael’s team – a true rivalry!
Good news story…
One of the older girls, Magdalena, struggled significantly in school. KCF were pleased to secure a hairdressing apprenticeship for her with a local business owner, who trained Magdalena in exchange for room and board. She is thriving in her role and has a real talent. After her setbacks with school, it is exciting to see her achieving so well with the potential to be self sustaining.
Girls’ house…
Plans for the development of the home for girls on their additional plot of land are being finalised with the architect.
Maintenance…
The food store collapsed due to heavy rains needing repairs and the solar system in the boys’ house needed parts replaced.
