Back on track…
COVID hit the Children’s Home hard…3 years of limited schooling and 9 months of home schooling without proper educational support. After being able to return to Fiji, the project manager, Dr Eleni Athinodorou (Dr Eleni), has been able to reacquaint with the children and get to know the new children, and re-establish the Tutoring Program Assessing to meet the current needs of the orphanage, especially the educational outcomes.
Several of the key staff left during the lockdown and the new leaders need support with routines and policies and procedures need to reviewed and re-established. Dr Eleni will return to St Tabitha’s in June to continue this work to ensure the tutoring program is sustainable.
Goals achieved!…
The goal to purchase a minivan to safely transport the children to and from school and to other activities has been achieved! The campaign exceeded all expectations so much so that the new vehicle is also fitted with car seat protectors, window protectors and fog lights and 12- month mechanical service agreement! Thank you to all who contributed including HADA for their significant donation.
Father Meletios stated: “This van could not have come at a better time. We are finally able to take all the children to activities and events with just one vehicle. Having a van like this makes everyday life much easier for all of us and increases our ability to provide new and meaningful experiences for the children of St Tabitha’s Home”.
In addition to the vehicle, the Home was able to purchase a much needed industrial washing machine. It is now fully installed and washing for 27 children!
Kindergarten plans…
The kindergarten is still planned and the space allocation for it will begin soon. Currently the focus has been on care and education of existing children as a priority.
