Growing in leaps and bounds…
Recently we visited Library Aid International to monitor their project in Burnie. Project manager Peter Cunningham and Secretary Ian Hubble greeted us warmly. HADA has been partnering with them for almost 10 years and it is so encouraging to see how the project has grown in leaps and bounds. They have many letters of thanks from teachers who have new libraries for their schools as well as pictures of excited children opening boxes.
This unique project accepts second handbooks from school and other libraries as well as resources for teachers and young children. They are well known and respected in their Burnie community and have now shipped eight containers full of boxes of books and resources…any spaces are filled with library shelves. Seven went to African countries and one to Fiji. The ninth container is already half full due to the great effort by volunteers and people who are working for the dole.
We heard a tractor pull up outside the office door…you just had to see it to believe it! A large bucket attached to the front of the tractor contained boxes of books brought to them for sorting and packing along with plastic bags of books and educational games for children already dropped off earlier in the week.
This truly is an amazing project and one that is helping teachers and encouraging children to enjoy reading and gain a good education.
