Transitioning to adolescence …
“Things at Paradise4Kids have churned on remarkably well into 2025 and I am very happy with the children’s development and their passage into their teenage years…” Donna states proudly. Haus Pikinini started with over 60 children, but today due to lack of funding it is home to 26 mostly young teenagers.
The teenage girls are shining. They have learned to sew on machines received for Christmas and are proficient bakers, making bread, cakes and delicious cream buns. Great skills, combined with a good education including tertiary studies, to enhance the prospects of a brighter future.
The boys are transforming into responsible and happy young men. The internet has caused the normal challenges, particularly with the older boys, requiring constant monitoring.
The children still actively participate in town sporting programs.
Raising funds…
- The guest house has provided good revenue over the past year.
- Annual fundraising sale of items gathered over the year contributes to general living expenses.
- A container packed by Rotary members in Brisbane through their ‘Donations in Kind’ program, provides material goods needed with the balance of goods going to serve our Outreach Program, My Bush Babies program, and supply many books and school materials to local schools.
Tapping fresh water…
Paradise4Kids PNG has struggled for the past 9 years accessing good potable water due to pollution in the rivers from gold mining. To drill for water was too expensive however Harmony Gold have very generously offered to pay for the drilling and to supervise the work. The drilling team identified a good underground source of water. This is a dream come true!
