Business goes on…
Micro businesses continue despite the latest issues in Cox’s Bazaar. Kidnappings, rapes, murders and torching of property occur regularly in the Rohingya camps by rebels hiding underground in the surrounding mountains…25 Rohingya leaders killed in the past few months.
The local managers, Zainul and Shimtheya, continue to oversee the micro business startup funds despite the dangers…enabling the business owners to provide food for their families. Zainul lost his job while working with the Rohingya community but is thankful an Australian benefactor supports his family.
Micro business loans…
The microbusiness startup funds are distributed as loans when funds are available. Those gifted funds in the past are freely contributing back into the micro business start up loan fund to assist others.
Business challenges…
- In summer, vegetables projects will be engaged. These are more costly…around $350/micro business. As funds increase, additional loans are available enabling more families to be self-sustaining.
- Commodity price are on the rise in Bangladesh which is impacting heavily on the Rohingya community
