Uganda revisited…
Dr Hannah Krause and Prof Judith Goh have been busy visiting, supporting, and training in Uganda from 6 to 24 August 2022. Drs Barbara Hall and John Taylor joined them at Kagando along with two new team members from Australia – Dr Magda and Dr Hnin.
Prof Judith visited Rwibaale (Catholic Health Centre) to provide training on prolapse, fistula and pelvic floor dysfunction. During a 3 day workshop, they upskilled 3 local practitioners and performed 31 operations. The Centre has requested a minicamp in December 2022.
Kitovu Hospital (run by the Catholic Church) approached DAK Foundation for prolapse surgery funding and Prof Judith visited the hospital for DAK to organise future prolapse camps to upskill the local practitioners. A camp is planned for March 2023. While visiting they upskilled Sr/Dr Florence.
At Kagando Hospital, local practitioners were upskilled during a 10 day camp; consultations were held with 110 patients and 90 women had operations…the majority being fistulas and prolapse cases. A fistula camp at Kagonda and a prolapse camp at St Paul’s Health Centre at Kasese are planned for December.
