Community Progress, delays and a growing vision…
The perimeter fence is complete, creating a safer enclosed area for the community…the children are now using the extended space within the walls to play safely and receive food.
Women in the community have begun meeting weekly in the area and hosting small fundraising events to help care for one another. These gatherings are a beautiful sign of local ownership, resilience, and mutual support.
Heavy rains have halted most physical building work except continued clearing of the plots. Delays in securing the title for the land and less funds raised than expected have extenuated this. The focus now will be on preparing the land further, including removing existing buildings, filling in latrines and clearing more trees ready for the next stages of construction.
A New Opportunity: A Third Plot…
The purchase of a third plot adjacent to the current second plot is under negotiation. This would allow better spacing of the buildings and stop any large, noisy, and dirty industrial plant directly next to the hub.
The Bigger Vision…
The long-term aim remains clear: to build a community hub that can support skills training, health education, local crafts, meetings, child development and feeding programmes for children with an undercover kitchen and shelter. They aim to charge a small amount for some classes to encourage ownership and sustainability.
This project is not just about buildings. It is about creating a safe, stable, and hopeful space where the people of Kantalomba can gather, learn, eat, support one another, and build a better future.
You Can Help…
The greatest current need is funding to keep the project moving forward, especially as the team works through land title issues, site preparation, and the potential purchase of the third plot. If you would like to help the Kantalomba Community Hub become a place where this community can thrive, please click the Donate to this Project button on the right sidebar. Thank you!
