Progress Update…
David Livingstone Zijjan and Glenyce have just completed a hectic six-week promotional tour, reconnecting with friends and contacts whilst establishing new ones. They spoke at 26 different events, ranging from intimate gatherings to larger groups, all with the goal of raising awareness and funds for the Emergency Medical Services Vehicle (EMSV).
A Mission to Save Lives…
Their focus remained on the urgent need for this vehicle and the impact it will have in Jinja and the wider Eastern Region of Uganda. Given the heavy traffic flow and frequent accidents on the Kampala-Kenya route, the EMSV is a vital resource for ensuring rapid medical response and saving lives, regardless of economic status.
One of the highlights of the tour was meeting with the HADA Board in October, gaining further support for this initiative. Additionally, efforts continue towards gaining CBO status from local authorities, a critical milestone in achieving operational sustainability.
Next Steps…
- Acquire a purpose-designed vehicle for emergency medical care by July 2025.
- Engage St. John’s Uganda or similar organizations to enhance paramedic and emergency medical technician training.
- Recruit and train qualified emergency personnel.
- Develop a communication base for effective coordination of emergency responses.
- Construct a secure garage for vehicle maintenance and security.
Challenges…
Challenges remain, particularly in securing funding for the vehicle purchase and operational costs. However, the overwhelming support and interest generated during the tour have strengthened their resolve to push forward.
