Summer Fun and Fellowship…
Ten summer camps accommodated 158 children. Most camps were two-night outings with groups varying in size from 5 to 15. Full-day hikes left from the Mountain Club Hut through the Elandsrivier canyon or from the Cape Nature Tweede Tol campsite to Witterivier in Bainskloof.
The children participate with great enthusiasm, appreciating the mountains, rivers and crystal-clear pools for swimming. Conservation awareness is nurtured…learning about fire hazards, pollution, baboons and other wildlife, hygiene and appropriate toilet habits in the wild. Several participants have learned to collect litter enroute, taking turns carrying the large black garbage bag on the hikes.
The meals provided are generous and always accompanied with a group time of reflection and meditation. The camps are formative experiences with life changing decisions made. The word keeps spreading, with an ever-growing number of children wanting to participate.
