Reaching new heights…
My Father’s House is supporting vulnerable youth to lead healthy, fulfilling, and responsible lives without drugs through supervised programmes such as hiking, canoeing, camping, soup kitchens, and other skills development…more than 80 children are benefiting. Participants in the programmes are thriving with marked improvements in other relationships within the family and the community.
The word is spreading resulting in ever increasing awareness and desire among children to join in on hikes and participate in programmes. Unfortunately, due to lack of staffing and resources they are at their upper limit of participants.
Scheduled activities…
Weekly contact with the groups has reduced due to schools operating full time again and fewer daylight hours after school in winter. Weekend activities have stepped up though, with day hikes most Saturday and Sundays. Hikes and camps are planned for the forthcoming winter school vacation.
Skills development groups meet 5 days a week with around 16 young men in every 6 month cycle. The soup kitchens are closed for the winter.
Support needed…
A YWAM worker has committed to regular involvement, but additional workers are needed…particularly for weekday activities.
A new premises in the area for afterschool programmes is desperately needed. Another facility has sadly fallen into the wrong hands…hopefully it can be turned around.
