Responding to COVID-19
From the beginning of lock-down, we were able to help Covid-affected people with supplies of daily necessities due to the response of many generous friends around the world to our appeal. After that initial response, other projects were implemented to support the neediest people through the impact of COVID-19.
Focus on Children
During the prolonged lockdown, children were one of the vulnerable groups highly impacted but were not much cared for. When school started in September, Corona infections increased alarmingly. Requests from communities and schools for help to protect their children poured in and we were blessed by generous givers who provided funds for nutritious food for children (to boost their immunity), hand-washing stations, self-learning materials and hygiene awareness sessions for school children of Arkul School. Nothing should be allowed to steal the joy of children and their teachers.
Food for Body and Brain
384 children from 9 schools in Gorkha and Pokhara received nutrition packages and a pack of learning materials, storybooks, alphabet charts, drawing materials and other stationery items. Some needy parents also received a good package of food and other supplies of winter clothes and hygienic toiletries and were able to participate in the hygiene awareness sessions.
Keeping Safe
25 hand-washing stations were installed in schools in various areas. Around 2500 students, school staff and people from communities that visit the health posts benefit from the wash stations. We have done follow up visits to those schools and they are using them very well. All the people have received awareness sessions on COVID-19 and how to practise general hygiene. They commended us for this support and expressed gratitude for helping them to avoid getting infected with the Coronavirus and water-borne diseases.
