The power of books …
Stories of 3 transformed lives:
‘M’ is a very bright but shy first-grader. He likes reading books but initially refused to share his learnings. With time and lots of encouragement from the library teacher, he finally stood up in front of all his school mates at the school and recited poetry! He now often reads books out loud, talking freely and enjoying playing with his new friends.
When ‘A’ joined the library program her drawing talent was quickly recognised by a teacher who encouraged her to use the colours available to create more pictures. Using the books as inspiration she has created many beautiful drawings, one of which was chosen for display at an art gallery. She was invited to develop her drawing skills further at no charge.
When ‘N’ joined the library, she knew all the alphabet but was unable to read in syllables. She lives with her parents; 3 younger siblings and her disabled father who worked 6 days a week at a furniture making company despite mobility issues. One day, she decided to take a book from the library that attracted her and started reading books slowly. She now loves to read and improves daily.
Going from strength to strength…
Since June, 80 to 90 children are coming every day with around 150 children in total. They have been able to celebrate children’s day with gifts donated to the children. The teachers are organising some fun activities for their summer break to keep them coming to the libraries during the break.
You can help…
