Back on track…
The English Club recommenced after the Manager’s absence due to family health reasons. The old participants have returned, and a new eager participant has joined the group. The club continues to meet weekly. They enjoyed celebrating American Thanksgiving…eating pumpkin pie and sharing with other participants. They also celebrated Christmas and New Year together.
Other programs…
Research and materials development to help combat the high incidents of suicide in Kazakhstan continues. Meeting with a local psychology professor to discuss this devastating issue was motivating.
Research into other health issues and the Health Brochure distribution is ongoing through the displays with their Office/Community Centre in the public hallway.
The Source of Hope (crisis pregnancy) group has not met in the Centre recently but can meet there for consultations and meetings as required.
Building in disrepair…
Water damage from several flooding events over the past 4 months have damaged the building. Cement and plaster walls need replacing, and gypsum board walls with wood studs will probably need to be replaced with brickwork. In addition, the building entrance way and public corridor to the meeting room needs repairing urgently.
Challenges…
- Wisdom needed to deal with group dynamics so participant numbers can increase.
- The groundwater level needs to drop some more so the required renovations to the Centre can commence plus time and energy to complete the work.
- Time, energy, and inspiration needed to put together lessons for the suicide prevention materials.
