A season of growth, progress, and opportunity……
Over the last quarter, the Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission has transitioned from winter into a busy and productive summer season. Across education, agriculture, and daily care, the Mission has continued to move forward with steady progress and strong purpose.
Students successfully completed their academic year on March 31st and have now begun the next stage of schooling. Several are also preparing for higher studies through the Mission University support program.
Beyond the classroom, children continue developing practical life skills through daily chores, agricultural work, maintenance, and supporting one another. These responsibilities are helping build resilience, responsibility, and a strong sense of community.
Current beneficiaries include:
- 40 hostel children
- 12 staff children
- Around 630 local school students
- 65 staff members
- 28 contractual labourers
- 13 university students supported through the Mission University program
A vibrant and trusted community…
Campus life has remained joyful and stable, with Easter celebrations and community gatherings bringing connection and encouragement to the children. The Mission continues to be warmly welcomed and trusted by the local community as a safe and caring environment for children. Families and local residents remain actively engaged through enrolments, events, and regular interaction. Recent enrolment efforts for Maxton Strong School, including a successful Sports Day, have further strengthened community visibility.
Improving daily life…
Infrastructure works have continued, with the new kitchen facility now nearing completion. This will greatly improve meal preparation and daily living conditions. Additional playground upgrades, safety works, and general repairs have also been completed.
Farm activity has been strong, with harvests of sugar cane, mustard, mulberries (approximately 400 kg), and garlic (100 kg), while wheat harvest is now underway. These crops continue to support food supply, operational needs, and the Mission’s long-term self-sufficiency goals.
Looking Ahead…
A key priority for the coming period is progressing further school affiliation with Central Board of Secondary Education for Grades 10–12. This remains a detailed process requiring ongoing administration, compliance, and infrastructure development.
