Cultivating Inner Dignity…
Many BOH students, having grown up in impoverished communities, develop a survival-driven, short-term mindset focused solely on immediate needs. As a result, they rarely care about their living environment — a passivity that often extends into their personal life choices as well. To break this cycle of passivity, BOH teachers led the 2nd and 3rd-grade students in an environmental clean-up along the public road outside the school on May 7.
The activity carried a deliberate educational purpose: by sweeping and caring for public spaces beyond their school’s boundaries, the children experienced a powerful shift in self-perception. Watching them take pride in transforming their community was a moment of real joy for the leaders — a vivid reminder that outward action can cultivate inner character change.
Other highlights over the past four months…
- Bronze Medal Victory (May 1-3): A BOH badminton student won a bronze medal in Steung Treng Province.
- Bicycle Donation (May 11): Distributed 7 bicycles donated by the Lotus World Organization to secure school access for the most vulnerable students.
- Angkor Eye Outing (June 1): Escorted 106 students to Angkor Eye for International Children’s Day,
bringing joy and a broader perspective to their lives. - Chapel Sydney Team Visit (July 13-17): Hosted an impactful spiritual and character-building camp where students learned about love, self-worth, and dignity.
- Four-Day Medical Mission (July 21-24): Collaborated with LCM and the Chapel Sydney Team to treat approximately 900 impoverished community members for free.
- Academic Excellence (July 29-31): Achieved a 96.7% pass rate in BOH’s final exams, with 59 out of 61 students passing, reflecting major academic improvements.
- Angie’s Life-Saving Surgery (August 13): Coordinated a successful Phnom Penh medical escort for Angie, supported by sacrificial blood donations from friends of BOH and LCM’s medical team.
