Empowering children…
Empowering children through learning! Over the past term, the children at Ajigo school, have completed 7 different subjects and other various life lessons, and most can now read and write. The school provides porridge for morning tea and a midday meal daily for up to 320 school children and partly home-based childcare at no cost to them. The manager sees them daily and visits them in their homes weekly.
Other Beneficiaries…
- The teachers, who are mostly single mothers, are now able to provide for their families.
- Lonely children in the villages benefit from meals and visits.
- All the community benefits from the education and care of the children.
Challenges…
- A bus purchase would safeguard children from animal and human threats during their long walks to and from school each day. Funds are necessary for this.
- Timely completion of the Arise Ajigo Bondo Building Project (KEN-010) will generate money for the school.
- Recent dry seasons have led to serious water shortages at the school, forcing them to buy unsanitised water from wells and rivers, posing health risks. Solutions include:
- To pipe clean tap water into the school at a cost of $4000.
- Purchasing more tanks would collect more rainwater during the wetter months of March and April.
- Several children have required treatment during the seasonal flu outbreak.
