A New School Facility
With the provision of a new school facility on the outskirts of Dhaka for the NHMBT, the Caleb Foundation aims to make the existing Orphanage and Schools programs in Bangladesh self-sufficient in a period of 2 years after construction is completed. This custom-designed multi-story facility is fully costed and is only $AUD150,000. It will be ready within a 12 month period. All the planning work is complete and we are now only dependent on funding to commence.
A Donated Property to Start
A suitable property has been donated near to a very busy industrial area on which we plan to construct a building made of concrete and steel with a tiled interior. Initially, it will have 3 floors with the possibility of developing up to six at a later stage. A two-shift per day English Middle School will be launched in 2021 with two Kindergarten classes and two 1st Grade classes. Each year thereafter, two new kindergarten classes will be started and the school will gradually build up to a full complement from Kindergarten through Year 10. There is currently no English Middle School in the area and many of the residents are sending their children into Dhaka, about an hour away, each day for schooling. Travel by bus in Bangladesh is dangerous and Dhaka isn’t the best environment for school children to be spending unaccompanied time in.
Whilst providing a quality education for the surrounding community it will also provide enough funding for the existing Orphanage and Schools programs, outlined below, to become self-sufficient.
Funding with Purpose
The Caleb Foundation through the NHMBT supports 12 boys at our orphanage at Vadun. Whilst it is partially self-supporting now it requires about $12,000 a year to maintain the facility and provide food and education for the boys. We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment and quality education for them all until they complete tertiary education or obtain suitable trade qualifications. Our oldest boy is now in his final year of high school. All the boys have constantly been in the top half of their years with the majority in the top quarter.
The Caleb Foundation through the NHMBT has been setting up Educational facilities in many of the communities that we serve in Bangladesh. Often communities cannot afford education for their children and in some places, there are no schools at all. Over the years we have started 10 schools, some of which are now self-sufficient and we are currently assisting with the salaries of 19 teachers in 5 schools. About 1,000 children are receiving a quality education now, many in very needy areas.
