In co-operation with the Government of Sierra Leone’s Social Welfare and Gender Services department, the Orthodox Mission of Sierra Leone in Partnership with PK4A Developments is building a series of Orphanages in Freetown and Waterloo to help save some of the forgotten ebola orphans.
The first building, to house 16 orphans, is 99% completed.
We are expecting the Government to authorize our first intake of 16 children just after Easter The President of Sierra Leone will officially open the orphanage as his last official act before he steps down during the upcoming elections.
The orphanage at Tower Hill is a three-story complex catering for 6 months to 6-year-old orphans. The building will comprise Ground Floor Pre-School, First Floor Living Area & Quarters and the Second Floor (top floor) offices. At Tower Hill, the facilities include a chapel and Teachers’ College where student teachers in early childhood studies will obtain experience as teachers’ aids to the carers and teachers of the Orphanage. Also on the campus are teachers’ and visitors’ residences.
The whole of this building is classified as Stage 1
Stage one is nearing completion; the roof of the buildings are being constructed as we speak. We also expect to open the orphanage just after Easter, probably in March or April with the first intake of 30-40 younger children.
